With suitable example explain microwave synthesis and bio catalyzed reactions

7 a]With suitable example explain microwave synthesis and bio catalyzed
reactions.

• Microwave radiations are the combinations of Electric and magnetic waves in electromagnetic spectrum.

• Microwave synthesis involves a science of applying microwave to chemical reaction.

• Microwave generate heat in a material containing polar molecules and conducting
ions.

Example:

Hydrolysis of benzyl chloride : Microwave assisted reaction is quite fast (approx. 10 min with
97% yield) while conventional method is time consuming (approx. 35 min).

A catalyst is a substance which alters or promotes the reaction & a substance especially an
enzyme that initiates or modifies the rate of chemical reaction is termed as bio catalyst. There are
mainly five types of bio catalysts.

  1. Microbes. 2. Lipases. 3. Proteases. 4. Cellulase. 5. Amylase.

Bio catalysis:

  1. Conversion of sucrose into ethanol can be achieved by using invertase as enzyme
    present in yeast.

2. Conversion of lactose into lactic acid can be achieved by using bacillus as enzyme.
